Participation in AAA's Annual National Traffic Safety Poster Contest brings out the creativity in kids while educating them on important traffic safety issues. This program aims to reduce traffic and pedestrian crashes, the #1 cause of death for children ages 14 and under.

Application forms and information on this program is sent to all public, private and parochial elementary, middle and junior high schools in the AAA Ohio Auto Club territory. You can also download an introductory letter to the program, the rules & guidelines, and entry forms in a PDF format.

Entries for the 2008-2009 National Traffic Safety Poster Contest should be submitted no later than Friday, February 6, 2009.

Three $1,000 awards will be presented this spring to the National Grand Award winners of AAA's Annual National Traffic Safety Poster Contest for students in grades K-8.

High School students have the option of submitting a hand drawn poster, graphic arts digitally enhanced submission or an audio/visual Public Service Announcement (Download the poster contest rules and

guidelines for more information). Three $2,000 awards will be presented to the National Grand Award winners in grades 9-12.

Awards will also be given for the top entries in the national contest. First place winners will receive $300; second place winners, $200; and third place, $100.

Students have a chance to win twice!

In order to determine which poster entries are sent to AAA's national judging, AAa Ohio Auto Club first hosts their own judging. All top entries are sent on to the national judging, and the top three entries in each grade group receive awards. Last year AAA Ohio Auto Club awarded over $1,600 in local awards.

Key traffic safety themes have been selected for the four different grade groups. Students are encouraged to be creative and come up with a slogan along with their art. This year's themes are:

  • Grades K-2: Pedestrian and Child Passenger Safety (Night Time Visibility, Proper Use of Booster Seats)

  • Grades 3-5: Getting to School Safely (Helmet Use, Interacting with Motorists, Obey Your AAA School Safety Patrol)
  • Grades 6-8: How to be a Good Passenger (Buckle Up, Don't Distract the Driver, Dangers of Using a Cell Phone or Changing the Radio/CD While Driving)
  • Grades 9-12: Safe Teen Driving (Alcohol Awareness, Distracted Driving, Agressive Driving/Speeding)

All entries must be delivered to the nearest AAA Ohio Auto Club store or mailed flat to:
